Two years and counting: fitness, community and creating a movement!

It’s been two years since we signed the lease at our location in downtown Edmonton and we couldn’t be more pleased with our affect in the local and digital community. Our vision has always been to build a community that is passionate about creating a healthy lifestyle and we have been successful in doing it.   We’re having so much fun doing this that it doesn’t feel like work!  I stand back every day in absolute awe at how this company has become the nexus of change for so many people.  We’ve created a health movement that focuses on empowering individuals so that they can create change in their circles of influence.  Thank you for being a part of this!


I’ve learned quite a lot in the past few years and I wanted to share two principles that resonate the most:

1) Create a Movement:  We focus far too much on the nitty gritty in life.  We look at the immediate results: profit margins, increasing followers and fans, completing short term projects, and temporary happiness.  We sometimes fail to look at the bigger picture behind why we do things.  Movements start when people see a need to change something in society.  Our team has been a part of creating a health movement.  We empower people to exercise in order to improve physical, mental, and spiritual health, but the momentum of this movement continues with you all.  You create the change in your lives and in those around you.  You’ve pulled your family, friends and co-workers into this movement by encouraging them to exercise more.  Empowering communities to create health-focused positive change is how we’re going to lower financial and social burden of diseases and allow each of us to look at this world differently.  Movements don’t start with government policy, they start with us.



2) People can change:  How many times have you heard that people don’t change?  Well if I believed that I wouldn’t be so passionate about personal training and helping people.  People change when given the right circumstance and a willingness to do it.  The two factors need to be in place and sometimes it takes years for someone to want it.  Our goal as a health community is not to force people to change but to provide the environment that is instrumental in it.  Apply these principles to yourself and realize that you need to be willing to accept change and shed the past before things get better.  Apply it to the people around you knowing that you could be part of their environment of change so that when the time is right they are supported in their change.  I don’t give up on people because I owe it to everyone that has helped me to change my life to help others in their life journeys.  The change may not happen during my interaction with people but I may somehow have assisted in encouraging them to do it.



Our team at Blitz cherishes the past two years but we’re focused on the future.  We want to continue producing more online content to inform and generate conversation around health.  We’ll continue providing challenging and fun training sessions and classes all with the intent to create change and build this community.  We’re also going to be more outwardly focused in the next year with more community events that benefit foundations and charities.  We want to empower this community to push this health movement farther than any of us could have ever imagined.

I love this analogy:

Treat life like you’re in the driver’s seat.  Take a brief glance in the rear view mirror at your past.  Stay focused on the present, the road in front of you.  Fix your gaze towards the horizon that is your future.
