Since working as a trainer I have worked with various individuals that are runners (short and long distances), and I have provided them with their cross training for days they do not run. Because of my job as an observer I get to see what  clients sticking points are or what training compensations they have, first hand, and develop their programs with the ultimate goal of improvement in … [Read more...]

Dressing for Cold Weather Activities: The Basics of Layering

This week on CBC Edmonton AM we covered the what to wear for activities in the cold. As Edmontonians we've probably all had this happen at some point in time: you look out the window and it's sunny and bright but when you step out the door a massive gust of cold air hits you like a sucker punch with a bag of ice. But we are Canadians. Instead of packing it in for the fall and winter we look the cooler temperatures straight in the eye and punk slap it in the face so hard El Nino shoots out of … [Read more...]

Funky Fork Catering at Blitz!

Hi everyone, I’m Erin and I’m really excited to be working alongside the amazing people at Blitz Conditioning. As a Red Seal Chef and educator in NAIT’s Culinary Continued Education Program, I have had the opportunity to teach people kitchen skills and share my love of food. I’ve always enjoyed pleasing friends and family with tasty treats such as Cupcakes and Banana Brie French toast. Unfortunately tasty doesn’t always mean healthy. As an extremely active individual, whether I’m training for a … [Read more...]

These maps will give you some ideas of different places to explore in the city but they should hopefully encourage you discover other places for yourself. Some of these areas area a … [Read more...]

Running, Running and More Running

Recognizing Edmonton summers are truly the best, I thought I’d let you in on my plans for the season: running. I enjoy waking up with the summer sun (sometimes before it) to get in a speed workout. I enjoy planning my weekends around a Saturday morning long run. I’ve learned how to properly use my Garmin watch. I’ve learned I am not blister-proof. I’ve learned peanut butter flavoured gels are not a good idea. And I’ve learned of routes through beautiful parts of Edmonton I never knew existed. … [Read more...]

Blitz Bootcamp

It's safe to say that summer in Edmonton has arrived! What I love most about summertime in Edmonton, especially in the downtown area, is the huge increase in people getting outside and getting active! Our beautiful city has so much to offer us, and it is great to see people taking advantage of it. I've gotten into the habit of trading the gym for the great outdoors, and what started as a feeble attempt at getting a tan has gradually been gaining momentum; It started with inviting a few … [Read more...]
