Run for Joel: Community.

We talk a lot here about community. As a matter of fact it’s in our vision statement:

We strive to be the number one fitness community in the world.

It’s big, it’s audacious, and it’s doable.

So last week when I took on the journey of donating one dollar for every kilometre to Joel I kind of knew that I was about to open the pandora’s box of caring and giving. From people offering to donate money for every workout they complete, to others offering to hit the trails with me I can’t thank you all enough for the absolutely insane generosity. A few special mentions:

Lindsey Graham1) Lindsey Graham is assembling a run group that will head out from Blitz every Thursday at 6:00pm (starting this Thursday)! Lindsey, who has been part of Blitz for three years, is an avid runner and leads many run groups out of the Running Room.  Oh, and did I mention she’s a lululemon Run Ambassador? Lindsey jumped at the opportunity to help Joel when the blog went out last week and wanted to volunteer her time. The run is by donation basis so please put some money in the pot at the front desk.

2) Craig Nedved, buddy you almost made me cry on Friday.  Craig, who has been with us for a year, owns TerraWerx Mechanical and has offered to match me dollar for dollar for every kilometer I run this season. Thank you so much for this. I smiled on Saturday when I laced my runners up and headed out for a 10 km.

Admittedly last week was a little rough on my fitness schedule but I managed to get it all in including 30 km total of running. My days are “busy” (I’m usually up at the crack of 4:45 am and it’s go go go until 9 or 10 pm at best) but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I schedule in my workouts and runs during the day and managed to crank out about two to three hours of exercise in every day (if you’re counting, that’s over 14 hours every week). So trust me that when I hear people say they are busy I empathize but it’s not an excuse.

My first 5 Peaks 16 km race is May 15 so I’m ramping up the distance this week (if you’d like to join me use the discount code “CHRIS”) so hopefully the trail conditions are great this week!
