Hitting the trails with intent.

I’ve been fortunate to be gifted three things in life: a voice, the desire to make a difference, and endless energy. Thankfully I’ve had many opportunities to use these three things – aside from yelling at you in classes – to help others through some pretty awesome foundations, events, and building communities. I also get to meet some amazing people like this guy, Joel…

He was my side-kick and official time keeper when I was volunteering at Ronald McDonald House every week (as an update I’m just working on another project for RMHC right now… details to come).  It took about 10 minutes for him to warm up to me and then we were best buds. He also makes a pretty awesome front desk person and greeted me every Thursday when he had the energy to do it.

He’s also my hero. Having gone through countless surgeries and more recently a heart transplant which he’s still recovering from. I’ve learned so much from him and his family about strength, perseverance, and simply being present. I began to realize how nominal most of the day to day “problems” were when I was sitting beside Joel, and his mom who is stronger than I’ll ever be.

I have always wanted to do something special for him and his family so after a bit of thinking I’ve decided to dedicate my entire running season and my 5 Peaks ambassadorship to him. I’ve been given so much and this is the least I can do to help out. I’ll be donating $1 for every km I run whether it’s a training run or a race to his family.

Time to hit some trails with intent!
