How To Do: High Pull (Video)

This is the first step in the progression for a kettlebell snatch. It looks easy, but the tricky part is not letting the kettlebell flip over. It’s important to keep your elbow high, and use your legs to make it a quick motion. Here is how to do it:

  1. Start with the kettlebell between your feet
  2. Squat down and grab the kettlebell
  3. Explode up, through the hips (focus on squeezing the glutes)
  4. On the way up think of pulling the kettlebell high leading with your elbow
  5. As if you were going to elbow someone who is behind you
  6. Once you near the top range of motion squeeze your lats, and keep squeezing your glutes
  7. Push the kettlebell forward, as if to punch someone now
  8. In a controlled motion put the kettlebell back onto the ground
  9. Switch arms, or go again with the same arm

I suggest doing a few practice ones with light, or no weight to get the movement down
