We’re Five Years Old!

It’s been five years since we opened our doors. Five years since we left the comfort, security, and stability of our previous professions and fitness companies to pursue our vision of a fitness community.

Blitz has brought a different kind of unknown to my life, a different way of being scared. I wake up every morning knowing that I have full control over EVERY single aspect of my success and more especially that of my team and those that I influence. The fear of failing at the pursuit of making a difference in people’s lives forces me to always be on my A-game starting when my alarm goes off at five in the morning.

For the past five years, I’ve learned to turn fear into productivity. I have work with the most amazing team of trainers and support crew, individuals who have taught me more about this craft than I thought possible. I have worked with individuals who want to see change in their lives and who have let me be a part of their empowerment. I look to them for inspiration and to be better than I was yesterday. It is to all of you that I thank in absolute humility for the amazing opportunity Brett, Erika, and myself, have to run Blitz Conditioning.

We are not your stereotypical gym. Yes we have personal training, we have H.I.I.T. classes, and we have spin. But our metrics have never been pounds of muscle gained, total fat lost, number of competitions won, or finish lines crossed. If a fitness organization fails at these basic skills then they are not worth the weights on their racks. We measure the impact and differences we can make. We are about community, building partnerships and making everyone feel welcome at Blitz. We are proud of the relationships we have made and the achievements we have had over the past five years. With your help, we have raised funds and assisted in the awareness for the following charitable organizations and events:

  • The Matt Cook Foundation – 2010
  • Bust A Move (Alberta Cancer Foundation) 2012 – 2015
  • Down Dirty Race (Alberta Cancer Foundation) 2014
  • Northern Alberta Ronald McDonald House 2014 – 2015
  • Bissel Centre 2014
  • HIV Edmonton 2014 – 2015
  • Tegler Youth Center (via River City Runners and Kids in Action) 2015
  • Innovative Canadians For Change – Kenya Run for Water 2014 – 2015
  • YWCA – Walk a Mile in Her Shoes 2014
  • Edmonton Pride Run 2015
  • CIBC Run for the Cure (Alberta Cancer Foundation) 2013
  • Halloween Howl (Alberta Diabetes Foundation) 2013
  • M.S. Bike Tour 2015

All in all we assisted in raising over $40,000 but the list doesn’t include all of the community events we have attended, boards we have sat on, and the presentations that we have done. We put the muscle in the community. Our community has impacted Edmonton in ways we could have never imagined – to think this all started with a few weights and a room is something we will never take for granted.

Year five was a game changing year. We took a few leaps and bounds in bringing in spin and of course bringing Erika on board as a partner. We are excited about our sixth year and all of the great times it will bring! We asked some hard questions to you, our community, about what you expect from us and we have already made some pretty big ones in response to the suggestions. Ultimately our hope is to increase our depth in relationships with all of you and to create an even bigger impact in your lives.
