Fitness, Focus, Freedom.

These three simple words compose Blitz Conditioning’s tag line but have made a world of a difference in our lives as a community.  Brett and I had the opportunity to teach a H.I.I.T. together last Saturday and something hit me as we were all working out: the Blitz Conditioning community is diverse but we are all here striving to create a health driven lifestyle.  We are living these three words both individually and as a community.  Individually, we are: students, lawyers, health professionals, veterinarians, writers, artists, scientists, parents, siblings, grandparents, and the list goes on.  The diversity as individuals is complimented by the growth as a community with so much potential.  This is how we live these three words in our community:

Blitz Conditioning concentrates on holistic fitness.  We have become people who are concerned both about our fitness but those of the people around us in the manners of mental health, social health, spiritual health, and of course physical health.  People usually come in with personal goals but progressively look at an outward focus.  That is, looking at how their fitness benefits others.

Fitness feels like such a personal battle.  As we worked out together I realized that our individual struggles, successes and rewards were shared in this community.  We focus on ourselves but within this we find interdependence.  Our focus shifts to other things exeternal to ourselves very quickly,  many of our community events here at Blitz Conditioning are usually focused on fundraisers and charities.  When we can focus on other things external to our own well being we are truly free.

Who does not want to be free?  But is freedom really categorized into something fiscal or goal oriented, or even in prevention of diseases?  I’d probably challenge that and say no.  True freedom lies in the ability to be where we want to be, do what we want to do, and live in a manner that allows us to contribute to a community.

I walked away from Saturday’s H.I.I.T. class truly enlightened and feelling charged (ok tired too…) but feeling as if our community at Blitz Conditioning has the potential to change Edmonton as we know it.  If you’re following me on twitter you’ll see that we’re focused a lot of giving back to the community.  We want to make some waves in Edmonton and this is how we are going to do it this month:

Ronald McDonald House and the Bissell Centre are our charities of choice for this year and  we have some awesome events coming up:

1) Home For Dinner on Saturday March 17:  The Blitz Conditioning community will be cooking for the families at the Ronald McDonald House and we’d welcome you to join us at 3:30pm!

2) Bissell Centre Fundraiser:  You may have been reading our blogs and following our tweets for the past few months but have yet to come in and check us out!  Well this is the perfect opportunity to do it!  On March 27 at 6:30 pm we are having a unique event for the Bissell Centre called SOMEBlitz (check out the site: )  where our trainers will do activity assessments, workouts and goal setting with the participants.  All the proceeds for this evening are going to the Bissell Centre so get a workout in while benefiting a great cause!

Blitz Conditioning is really focused on providing the freedom to others in our awesome Edmonton community and please feel free to contact me for more information! Or better yet, share some of your thoughts, experiences and ideas for how we could give back to the community in the comments below.
