Fit Quest Week 2: UPDATE – Level UP!

Steven Hodges Week 2Why hello there chums! Thanks for worldwide web slinging over for an update on my #Nerd4Fitness challenge.

If you’re just joining us, you can check out my first blog HERE.

For all you returnees, I want to thank you all for the support and thanks for coming back *blush* This is a pretty amazeballs opportunity and I’m glad you’re along for the ride.

First off, I’ve lost six pounds and I am more stable when doing core exercises. Turns out I really had a core after all.

Second, I ascended the Royal Glenora stairs not once, but 10 times!!! For those of you who don’t know the Royal Glenora stairs, they are pretty much the devil in step form.

People use these stairs to train for mountain climbs because of the wicked incline and I’m pretty sure I saw a sherpa die of oxygen depravation halfway up. Chris rounded up a gang of awesome people and we conquered them together. With our powers combined, we conquered thousands of steps. GO TEAM!

Steven Hodges Week 2 frontWeight loss is an important part of this quest, but it’s not the only part. Throughout the 90 days, Chris and I will come up with challenges, like beating the devil’s staircase, which will help me take my training to the next level.

I am looking at this as a role-playing game where my character is going to defeat the obese overlord and hopefully find that the princess isn’t in another castle…

The Royal Glenora stairs were the first level beat, but it won’t be the last. Having these little victories are going to keep me going through an intense 90 days.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I wasn’t much for team sports growing up. I know that this may come as a shock to some of you but I’m kind of a geek and I always will be. My point is that I never experienced the thrill of many team wins during my adolescence.

I find myself becoming a member of a community that dedicates themselves to helping others reach their fitness goals, as much as it they do to meeting their own. I encourage you to seek out a group of fitness aficionados and see what all the fuss is all about. There is nothing more motivational than the encouragement of another.

Steven Hodges Week 2 sideThis week, I am going to kick it up a notch by being active more than ever before. I am going to attend at least five High-Intensity-Interval-Training (HIIT) classes, run and play some dodgeball/slo-pitch. Wish me luck and if you know a good masseuse, or if you are one, we should be friends. Good, good friends…

Enjoy this week’s round of shirtless photos and a few action shots and here’s another Top 10.

  1. I too, am looking to shed some weight/ get in a better healthy lifestyle etc. so one of my mini victories is not keeping junkfood in the house, regardless of how much it looks delightful at the store. No temptations that way.

Some of my top jams are:

    Psy – Gangnam Style
Kayne West – Stronger (a version of Daft Punk’s HBFS)
Daft Punk – Harder Better Faster Stronger
Black Eyed Peas – Don’t stop the Party
    La Roux – Bulletproof
    Macklemore – Can’t hold us
    Ghetto Superstar –
Example – Changed the way you Kissed me
    LMFAO – Champagne Showers
    Lady GAGA- Bad Romance

    Cheers 🙂

    • Hey Twebber! Thanks for the reply and kudos to getting rid of all the junkfood in your house. Do you get cravings for the junk(food)? Sometimes I see a bag of Swedish Berries and I want to destroy them with my mouth.

P.S. Thanks for sharing some solid tunes. Macklemore is great to workout too. It makes my heart smile that you threw on some Ghetto Superstar by Pras.

      • SJH,

Yes, I do crave the junk food once in a while, but mostly the sweet stuff. I could completely leave the fast food industry on the side of the road. Not my thing.

I do get the cravings especially for carbs. Cookies, crackers, bread, etc. I could sit down and eat entire loaves/ sleeves/ bakeries etc; so the best way to avoid “my” junkfood is to keep small amounts in the house (ie: crackers for soup etc) That way there is a purpose for them, and less likely to gorge.

but leave myself something sweet in the event I turn into a crazy lady who might mug some Girlscouts for their cookies (not actually violent, just love cookies). Lately, due to summer, I found that getting some individual serving skinny cow ice creams (variety) and just keeping them in my freezer for those brutally hot days really has been helping keep my sweet tooth in check, and well.. progress not perfection 🙂 I still LOVE chocolate. 😀 (and fresh sweedish berries)

How has your battle been going?

P.S. Yes Pras. I couldn’t remember the group, but I know 90% of the words to the song.. lol

        • Tweb,

Fast food and Swedish Berries are my kryptonite by far!

My battle is going well. I can’t wait to drop my blog tomorrow and update you!

  2. SJH!
    1) Little victories (this week):
    – Entering my food diary in MyFitnessPal so Chris can see it makes me accountable to someone more than myself. It makes me think twice! And I am looking forward to hearing his tips for fine-tuning.
    – starting my week off right by doing a Blitz workout today for an hour and facing my fear (of spraining my ankles) of reverse lunges on a BOSU ball!
    2) Jamz:
    – Can’t Hold Us (feat. Ray Dalton) – Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
    – High School Lover – Cayucas
    – Something for the DJs – Pitbull
    – Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You) – Kelly Clarkson
    – Video Games – Lana Del Ray
    – Wild Ones (feat. Sia) – Flo Rida
    – No Diggity – Chet Faker
    – Thrift Shop (feat. Wanz) – Macklemore
    – When a Fire Starts to Burn – Disclosure

    • KD!

Is MyFitnessPal an app?? I may have to check it out. I met with Loreen at Revive Wellness and she told me that a good way to journal my meals is to take pictures. I am going to be ‘that guy’ who takes pictures of his food. Way to kick Monday off right and I look forward to conquering the devil’s staircase with you tomorrow!

As well, you have some pretty solid jamz. I am going to take all the songs people submit and make a playlist!

      Keep being awesome!

  3. Way to go Steve!! Excited to follow along with your journey!
