Edmonton Oil Kings: Fun for the whole family

The Edmonton Oil Kings have been an institution in our city for over 60 years. One of the greatest things that the franchise brings to the city is an exciting opportunity to see up and coming players in a family oriented environment. Bringing the team to Rogers Place was a great decision that has allowed people to experience the facility without the high prices of other events like NHL games, concerts, and other events. The Oil Kings draw a crowd of high energy kids that will help you get out of your seat and cheer for the team no matter the score. The thing that excites me the most about this city is our unbridled level of support for just about anything as long as we feel like we own a piece of it: it’s not about shopping local – it’s about feeling as if you belong to the very fabric of a business or a team. We support the team because they have been an integral part of the lives of our families, our friends, and our community.

That feeling of shared history is felt right when I walked into the arena a few Saturday’s ago – the team was supporting Sorrentino’s Compassion House and selling hats to support the Breast Friends Dragon Boat Team.

And it was great to see my Elementary School there to sing the national athem!

Unfortunately the Oil Kings were on the opposite side of a pretty one sided event but the energy was still pretty high with plenty of action including a few scraps and some great saves!

It is always tough to watch a home team loss but seeing these athletes grind it out night after night, in spite of the numbers on the board, is always a privilege. Andre and myself had some amazing seats thanks to Air Miles and everything about the game goes so much faster when you are at eye level. It allowed me to realize that this level of hockey really requires every player to be in their peak performance!

Also, if you have Air Miles check out the 25% discount that’s offered for Oil Kings games, it brings the cost of a family outing down even farther! We had a great time experiencing the Oil Kings game in January and I’m definitely going to be back. Hope to see you there!
