Running, Running and More Running

Recognizing Edmonton summers are truly the best, I thought I’d let you in on my plans for the season: running. I enjoy waking up with the summer sun (sometimes before it) to get in a speed workout. I enjoy planning my weekends around a Saturday morning long run. I’ve learned how to properly use my Garmin watch. I’ve learned I am not blister-proof. I’ve learned peanut butter flavoured gels are not a good idea. And I’ve learned of routes through beautiful parts of Edmonton I never knew existed. … [Read more...]

This is a Thank You

I’ve been asked a number of times why I have a personal trainer. I don’t have a profound or inspired answer. I actually can’t even remember the exact moment I decided it was something I was going to do. I guess I figured if I was actually going to make some changes I should get some help, since really I had no idea what I was doing. (When I say no idea, I cannot stress how much I truly mean NO IDEA.) I also don’t remember my initial plans with regards to said personal training. In the very … [Read more...]

Getting ‘Back on Track’

IMG_3316

In the nearly 15 months I’ve been coming to Blitz, I’ve never really taken a break. I classify breaks as unintentionally sleeping in and missing HIIT on Thursdays or taking vacation – though I’m pretty diligent about working out and running while I’m away. Working out and running have become engrained in my life. I love everything about my routine – the personal training, the HIIT, the running, as well as the time of day, the limits that are pushed and the people I’m surrounded by. So, in a … [Read more...]

‘Listen to Your Body’

It’s been over a year since my fitness journey began, first with weight training and HIIT then with running. And I’ve been injury-free – unless you count what happened at the River City Runners’ 24-Hour Treadmill Challenge (but let’s not). I credit this mostly to proper training, along with dumb luck and good socks as I’ve never even had a blister. I run four times a week and am at Blitz six days a week. My schedule will change, as I’m currently six-ish weeks away from full-on marathon … [Read more...]

Destination: Fit

IMG_2645

Like many people, I love to travel. I’ve been lucky enough to see a few corners of the world, as well as numerous places closer to home. But most of my big trips thus far were before I learned to squat properly. For example, during a month-long trip to Greece a year and a half ago, there was not a thought that crossed my mind with regards to fitness. The amount of cheese I ate reflects this (though I have no regrets). Things are different now. I’ve integrated healthy living into my daily life … [Read more...]

A Goal Among Goals

After starting 2014 with no specific fitness goals, yet making some pretty monstrous changes (and accomplishing a few things I never thought I would along the way), I wanted to approach 2015 a bit differently. I had planned to set goals. To start swimming again, at least somewhat regularly. To overcome my fear of showing a lack of flexibility and balance during any type of yoga class. To try cross country skiing. And to get back on my bike for the first time in… I actually don’t know how many … [Read more...]

A Work In Progress

Personal Trainer Edmonton

My typical week Monday: Personal training 1hr Tuesday: HIIT 1hr and 8-10km run Wednesday: Personal training 1hr and 8-10km run Thursday: HIIT 1hr Friday: HIIT 1hr and 8-10km run Saturday: HIIT 1hr Sunday: 12-18km run When I think about my fitness journey thus far, it’s easy to categorize it in terms of personal training, HIIT and running. And my advice for those three things is simple: show up and give it your all. But any fitness journey obviously encompasses much more than, well, … [Read more...]

Jen’s Game Plan

Scale nice try

So in our first blog Rob and I laid out our goals for 2015 and while it what we are committed to, without a game plan and actions attached to those statements, we risk them remaining simply statements of intent. The following is my game plan: Goal #1: participate in a variety of activities to build strength, definition and endurance I think this goal is probably a bit of a cop out in that I have committed to doing this for the last 10 years. I guess I should have probably said that I … [Read more...]

This is the year.

NickKaceyBoston

This is the year I stop looking back and start giving back. This year, I am not going to let my past performances, injuries, and disappointments define my future ability or confidence as a runner. It’s time to set new goals with renewed energy. I will invest what is required to run a sub 1:32 half marathon and quality for the NYC marathon. I am committed to giving my best in preparation and on the mountain trails of Sinister 7 – my ladies crew is striving to be the  #1 female team this year … [Read more...]

One Year and Counting

Personal Trainer Edmonton

I was truly honoured when I was asked last summer to write a blog for Blitz about my fitness journey. At that point it had been six months since I first walked through the doors, pledged change for myself, and asked for help in both accomplishing and sustaining it. Now, nearly a year to the day of my first workout at Blitz with Brett, I'm starting a more consistent blogging routine. To be thought of for the Influencer program is, again, an honour and I simply hope you enjoy reading about my … [Read more...]
