Carlos’ 90 Day Challenge: Day 1 the hardest decision…

Carlos Cuevas 2010 vs 2009

It’s often said that the hardest decisions are the ones worth making.

Hi there, my name is Carlos Cuevas (you might know me as Goodwill Carlos from KooL 101.5). I’m getting my life back with Blitz’ 90 Day Challenge!

Back in 2009, I realized that my lifestyle was hurting me very badly; I was headed nowhere fast because I kept making the same poor decisions about food and exercise. I remember on September 18, 2009 I was sitting exactly at 2 months into my marriage, I was 28 years old and at an astounding 340 lbs and on that very day I made the tough decision to re-gain control of my own life. I decided it was time to lose weight and walked in to a Herbal Magic clinic. Ten months after, on July 7, 2010 I had lost 120lbs with the Herbal Magic program! Not only did I learn what to eat, how to eat, and when to eat, I also learned to tell the difference between being thirsty and being hungry. I was now sitting at 220lbs but I realize that this was an ‘un-fit’ 220lbs.  All of the weight loss was from proper nutrition but I didn’t do any exercise. Today, 3 years after, I’m sitting at 255lbs. For some reason, healthy eating is getting harder. Maybe my metabolism is slowing down, but I realize that I need help. One of the hardest parts of my journey to health is accepting that I can’t do this on my own. In my defense, I can’t do something like exercise when I don’t know how to do it. That’s why I looked for help.

I met Amy and Leigh from Blitz Conditioning Calgary a few weeks ago when I was asking about some classes and after chatting I decided to do two back to back 90 Day Challenges with them over the next half a year. They are my personal trainers that will help me make one of my goals come true: I’ve had a flyer for the Calgary Marathon pinned on my cork board for the past while and my goal is to run it on June 1, 2014!

The reason why we’re doing two 90 Day Challenges is as follows: On my first 90 Day Challenge we’re going to be working on strengthening my body and trimming the fat. Working on taking this un-fit 255 lbs body in to a fit 220 lbs. There’s a difference between a unfit 220lbs body and a fit 220lbs body and for the first time, and we’ll see the change during the first three months.  The second 90 Day Challenge will be focused on getting me ready for the Marathon.  Amy had suggested that we periodize the training as such so I don’t over-stress my body and my mind by preparing for too many things at one time.

I accept that life is hard, some may say hectic, my work schedules and my daily life commitments make finding the time to work-out hard, but it’s time to make time for me. It’s time to take care of me. I’ll learn how to work-out so that I can do on my own. I’ll learn how to get back out there and run. It’s time to live my life and have the body that I was meant to have, time to be happy again. It’s time to get my life back… It’s Blitz time.

Oh yeah, excuse the mustache. I’m supporting Movember… 🙂
